Before I waste my time copying the wikipedia definition for imagination I would like to say that it is not a finite term. Imagination is a non definitive realm. It is not generally regarded as something of the real. Imagination is otherwise unrealistic. If imagination is somewhat subliminal then it must be derived from the subconscious or the unconscious. These mental states are supposedly misfire representations of our present reality within our brain. This means that imagination is derived from reality, so in a sense makes it just as real as reality. If you think it, feel it, taste it, touch it, is it real? I am interested in these questions because of my vivid subconscious journeys. I will deal with webster's definitions one at a time now.
Imagination : the act or power of forming a mental image of something not present to the senses or never before wholly perceived in reality
So if I see you standing in front of me in a red dress and I close my eyes and picture you in that same red dress I am not imagining you. On the other hand if I picture you in a blue dress I have used my imagination. Now we are getting somewhere.
Imagination : creative ability
So having the ability to picture you in a blue dress when you are in a red one is not enough. I need to possess the ability to create this you in a blue dress, to render it somehow in a tangible form such as: drawing, painting, photo manipulation, sculpture, craft, etc. Ok!
Imagination : ability to confront and deal with a problem
Seems like I need to back up now. In order to get all this right at the same time I need to have a problem with your red dress, then picture it blue and then possess the ability to create this vision. Well, I do not have any problem with a red dress so let me think of a problem to solve. Wait. I am solving the problem of defining imagination therefore everything I have written so far even the red/blue dress bit is using my imagination. Great!
Imagination : the thinking or active mind
Now it seems I am waisting my time typing because by just thinking I am imagining.
That is much easier than changing your attire from a red dress to a blue dress and then typing out a blog post about the whole thing.
Imagination : a creation of the mind
Wait. Damit all! I still have to think of something that I create. Where did the blue dress come from? Did it really come from my imagination, or is it just a combination of a blue color I saw on the ice-cream shop awning and the same red dress you have on? If so then those are derived from reality and not created in my mind thus I have failed.
What if you had a four foot nose that wrapped around your head and tits that came off your arms with no nipples and were made of translucent blue jello? Crap! That doesn't quite fit the bill either. It is all derived from reality. So I have to ask myself another question now. Is imagination just as real as reality?
Imagination : fanciful or empty assumption
Yes, I did it again. Victory I am making a fanciful assumption that imagination is real.
So, is it or isn't it real or imaginative? Some people make real things look pretty while others chose to make ugly, weird, superficial, and or funny, etc. That is creative, but are they using their imagination? Can anyone truly have a one of a kind vision? I personally think everything is relevant to all things. This means nothing is truly its own entity. We are inert but moving, changing, dynamic. So lets get out there and use our imaginations if we can.
