Good Films by Nicolas Winding Refn

    Nicolas Winding Refn has quickly become a favorite director of mine. I watched Drive first, followed by Bronson, and immediately sensed a common thread before even looking up who directed them. The music, lighting, and cinematography tie together in an unusual way. The manner in which Refn develops main characters is thorough and thought-provoking; I found myself relating to characters who are bizarre yet deeply human. I don't usually feel connected to characters who perform such outrageous acts, but Refn brings their human side to the surface in both light and dark ways that fascinate me.
